Lineage 2 Chronicles Explained

A quick guide to the Lineage 2 chronicles you'll see on private server listings - Classic, Interlude, High Five, Gracia Final, and more - and what actually changes between them.

Why chronicle matters

"Chronicle" refers to which major content update of Lineage 2 a server's client and server files are built from. NCSoft released the game in stages over many years, and each chronicle added zones, classes, skills, and systems on top of the last. A private server picks one chronicle as its foundation - it isn't a difficulty setting, it's a different version of the game with a different amount of content.

The chronicles you'll see most often

Classic strips the game back to its earliest, pre-expansion form - no subclasses, no Kamael, a slower and more territorial early game. It's the closest thing to Lineage 2's original 2004 release, and the usual pick for players chasing pure nostalgia.

Interlude is widely considered the classic "golden era" chronicle for private servers: a mature class and skill set, the Olympiad PvP system in a well-balanced state, and enough zones and raid content to support both PvE and PvP servers well. It remains the single most common chronicle for new server launches.

High Five adds the Ertheia and other later systems, expands raid and instance content, and generally offers more end-game depth than Interlude at the cost of a steeper, longer progression curve.

Gracia Final sits between Interlude and High Five in the timeline, introducing the Seed of Infinity/Destruction instances and further skill reworks - a common choice for servers wanting more instanced PvE content without going as far as High Five.

Freya and Essence chronicles reworked class balance and, in Essence's case, overhauled itemization significantly - both used by servers specifically built around their particular balance changes rather than the broader Interlude/High Five split.

Picking by chronicle

If you want the game most private-server veterans consider the best-balanced PvP experience, Interlude is the safest starting point. If you want more content and don't mind a longer road to end-game, High Five or Gracia Final give you more to do once you're there. If you want the game as close as possible to its original release, Classic is the one built for that. L2VoteKing lets you filter the server list by chronicle so you can compare servers within the one you actually want to play.
