How to Choose a Lineage 2 Private Server

A practical checklist for picking a Lineage 2 private server that will still be online in three months - not just at launch.

Start with what kind of player you are

The single biggest factor isn't rates or chronicle - it's matching the server to how you actually want to play. If you want the slow, deliberate progression of the original game, look at classic or low-rate (x1-x25) servers. If you want to skip the early grind and get to raids, sieges, and PvP quickly, mid-to-high rate servers (x100-x1000+) are built for that. Ultra-high-rate servers (x5000+) are usually short-lived, event-style experiences rather than long-term homes - know that going in.

Judge the launch, not the trailer

Almost every server looks good in its announcement post. What separates the ones worth your time is what happens in the first two weeks after opening: is the GM team responding to bug reports, are exploits getting patched quickly, is the economy staying stable, is the population holding or already dropping. A server's "opens" date on a toplist tells you how new it is - newer isn't automatically riskier, but it does mean there's no track record yet.

Read the fine print on rewards and payments

Vote-reward systems (in-game items for voting on a toplist) are a good sign a server cares about retention, but check that the reward is actually claimable and reasonable - not a bait-and-switch. If the server sells donations or premium items, look at whether the shop affects PvP balance directly (pay-to-win) or is mostly cosmetic/convenience. Neither model is automatically wrong, but it should match what the server promises in its description.

Use the community as a signal

An active Discord with real conversation (not just bots and ads), visible GM presence, and players discussing actual gameplay rather than just recruitment spam are strong positive signals. A server with zero community activity outside its own promotional posts is a server with very few real players behind the numbers.
